Dorothy's Diary A day in Moscow April 29th

The river Moscow with the Kremlin in the background

Wednesday 29th April

We met our companions and Laziz in the lobby for a little chat before setting off for central Moscow.

Joan hadn’t been well during the night so she went to Lenin’s Mausoleum and then said that she was going back to the hotel. Laziz took us to get tickets for the Armoury. It sounded very complicated so we all let him organise the tickets. They were very expensive, but we may never get the chance to visit again so we all paid up. It was about £21.00 each. In the armoury we had an audio set which helped but not all the displays were numbered so it was confusing. We did get to see the Faberge eggs.

The weather was very hot so we had to keep stopping in the shade. After lunch in the underground shopping mall Merrill left us for a wander round Red Square, and Patrick, Alan and I went down to the river. We walked towards the Church of Christ the Saviour. It is used as a place of worship, not a museum, so we didn’t have to pay, just leave a donation.

We would have liked to take a boat trip, but it would have taken 1 ½ hours and we didn’t have the time as we were meeting Laziz at 7.00p.m. for dinner. When we got back to Red Square it was still closed so we made our way around the back of the Gum store to as close to St Basil’s as possible. We waited for ages, but missed Laziz so went back to the hotel for a bath and an early night.
