Friday 3rd April
The great adventure begins at 9.36 a.m. as we leaves Darfield in misty murky weather and travel towards the A1 to the sound of the overture to Tannhauser, one of our favourite pieces of music.
Within 30 minutes I have seen the three trucks that I always look out for when travelling ie.Eddie Stobart, Prestons of Potto and Norbert Dentressangle.
We reach Peterlee in Co Durham at 11.30 and have no difficulty in locating Steve and Jenny’s house. They take us to the Dun Cow in Sedgefield for lunch. This is the pub that Tony Blair took George Bush to when he visited the UK a few years ago. It was great to catch up with Steve and Jenny as we hadn’t seen them for quite a while.
From Peterlee we travelled north again and arrived on Lindisfarne at 6.00 p.m. Our guest house is very comfortable and the proprietors come from Wakefield so we feel very much at home.
Saturday 4th April
We have had a really good full English breakfast, consisting of local produce, which sets us up for the day. We had a wander round the island but as the weather wasn’t too good we mainly had a look around the craft shops and the English Heritage museum.
After a good meal in the Crown and Anchor we went to a reflective communion service for Palm Sunday Eve at St Cuthbert’s centre, which is a United Reformed church. We both felt that this was the right place to leave our candle. Just before the service began a couple arrived and I said to Alan that I knew the man. They came to sit by us and after the service we began a conversation with them. The lady said the same as me, that she felt that she had met us somewhere before. It turned out that we had both been on the same pilgrimage to Israel in 1999. Talk about a small world!
