Dorothy's dairy - Ekaterinburg 2nd May

Church of the Blood - Ekaterinburg
Laziz took us all on an orientation tour, and told us where the supermarket was. We need supplies for 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners for the next train journey to Irkutsk.
Ipatiev House, where the Tsar and his family were murdered, was destroyed in 1977. A church has been built over the ruins. When we visited there was a service, so we were able to stand and watch for a few minutes. All the ladies have to cover their heads and even though we were wearing trousers we were given a cloth to put round our legs.
We continued our walk in the snow covered streets to Lenina Street. This is one of the main streets in Ekaterinburg, but there was no traffic. We soon learned that a marathon was due to begin at 11.00a.m. As we walked down the street a small parade led by a band had formed up. This was the victory parade for May 9th (Victory Day). This is to commemorate the victory in the Great Patriotic War ie World War 11.
We are into our fifth week and we have already slept in 14 different beds and travelled on 10 different trains.
